Grade

  • Students must choose 4 organisms found in the schoolyard and answer questions (ie: are they a producer, consumer, or decomposer?). This activity can be a research based assignment or to quiz them on organisms discussed in class. Wrap up: Students share their favorite organism with the class, discuss a particular answer, etc.

  • Discuss invertebrates and lifecycles. Explain incomplete (egg, nymph, adult) and complete (egg, larva, pupa, adult) metamorphosis. Students search for, draw, describe and name invertebrates. Hypothesize lifecycle type. Wrap-up: share findings, review lifecycle types, etc.

  • Discuss patterns. Discuss that patterns can occur in nature or be man made. Students explore the schoolyard in search of patterns and sketch their findings. Wrap up: Discuss the patterns found. Each student shares his/her favourite pattern.
