About Ag for Life
Together, they are growing a better public understanding of the role of agriculture in Alberta’s culture and economy.
Agriculture is critical to every aspect of life, whether you are a city-dweller, a canola-grower, rancher, or tend to a backyard garden. It is the foundation of Alberta’s society and economy, feeding over 7 billion people and providing jobs for millions of Canadians.
Since 2011, Agriculture for Life (Ag for Life) has played a vital role in educating Albertans about agriculture, food, farming and safety and the pivotal role it plays in our lives.
Through close collaboration with stakeholders, Ag for Life will develop, expand and offer curriculum-based educational programming that will serve to improve farm safety and to build a genuine understanding and appreciation for the role agriculture plays in society, the environment and the economy.

Many in agriculture know someone whose life has been affected by a farm-related injury or death. The statistics are sobering. Even more tragic is that these incidents could have been prevented with a few simple safety precautions. That’s why the Progressive Agriculture Foundation® is on a crusade to bring safety and health information to the farming communities who desperately need it. The mission of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Days is simple – to provide education and training to make farm and ranch life safer and healthier for children and their communities.
At the heart of this effort is the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® program. This educational program provides training and resources for local communities to conduct one-day safety and health programs. Safety Days are designed to be age-appropriate, hands-on, fun, and safe for children.

Agricultural production will need to increase by 70 percent in order to meet the new demands of food, feed, fuel and fibre for the predicted world population of nine billion by 2050. Agriculture plays a key role in helping to stimulate growth, secure rural livelihoods and reduce poverty in a way that is environmentally sustainable.
The Story of Agriculture and the Green Economy highlights how agriculture can help build a global green economy, including increased food production, more efficient water use, improved livelihoods and increased resources to benefit women smallholder farmers.
“The Farming First video uses the creative technique of animation to highlight how agriculture can help address the many challenges the world faces today,” says Morgane Danielou, from the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA). “These include investing in training, knowledge sharing and research and development to help farmers sustainably improve the quantity and quality of the crops they grow.”
“Public sector investment in agriculture has been in decline for 30 years, yet it is a crucial element in addressing food security and coping with resource shortages,” adds Howard Minigh, CEO and President of CropLife International. “More transparent and coordinated policies can help deliver the continued improvements needed to support the agricultural sector.”
