One hour classroom presentations about where food comes from and the importance of agriculture to our daily lives. Agriculture volunteers across Alberta go into the classroom with information, props and visuals to engage students.

Students learn to identify colors by hunting to find various colors in the school yard. Students must use matching skills to match colour swatches with items around the schoolyard. Wrap up: Students pair up and share their findings. What other colours did they find while looking?

Discuss colours and nature. Predict rare and common ones. Outside students find and draw natural items for each colour. Wrap-up: rare and common colours, natural vs. manmade, etc.

Students explore the schoolyard to find and compare objects listed. Students then solve basic math equations. Wrap up: Review answers. Would the numbers change with the different seasons?

Discuss crime scene investigation: observations, evidence, reports. Students investigate a “crime” in the natural area and complete the CSI Report. Wrap-up: share solutions and evidence to support.
